Traveler’s Journey Phases

A traveler’s journey can be broadly split into three primary phases based on different segments:
1. Pre-Travel.
2. During Travel.
3. Post-Travel.

Pre-Travel Phase

As previously mentioned, the pre-travel phase contains three phases and five steps:
Inspiration, Exploration, Research, Shortlisting, and Decision-making.

  1. Inspiration: requires a stimulus that can take negative sentiments, such as missing your family and wanting to go back home, or positive ones, such as seeing a friend’s amazing vacation photos on social media. The main inspirational channels are Social media, traditional media, and even just hearing about a great trip from a friend are a big source of inspiration.
  2. Exploration: You start thinking about where you want to go, who you want to go with, and what kind of trip you want.
The primary channels utilized for this exercise involve search engines, reading reviews, or talking to travel agents online or in person.
  3.  Planning has two parts:
    • Research: You are looking into potential destinations, attractions, packages, and prices. It can be overwhelming with so many choices! Search engines, travel review sites, and travel agents are your best friends here.
    • Shortlisting: You narrow down your choices and compare them in detail. This is where you start building your dream itinerary and planning what you want to do.
  4. The Decision (Booking): You decide to go for it and book your flights, accommodation, and maybe even your whole itinerary! It’s exciting, but you’re also trying to find the best deal and the perfect time to travel.
